Gender Respect Project 2013-2016

Aiming to help children and young people to understand, question and challenge gender inequality and violence.

Teaching Ideas

The Project Teachers have been developing and trialling teaching ideas in their schools. Please feel free to try out these ideas and give us feedback on how they could be improved.

We have produced lesson plans and resources for all ages, from Early Years to Secondary. There is a range of subjects covered, including sport, careers, gender roles and stereotypes and masculinities.

There are also lesson plans with a global perspective, including education, sport, conflict, domestic violence and child marriage. As part of this global perspective, we have included ideas, images and interviews from the Awra Amba community in Ethiopia. A visionary leader called Zumra Nuru who had observed much inequality and injustice throughout his own childhood and sought to bring about positive change founded the movement forty years ago.  This positive example of lived gender equality in Africa could be used to inspire children and young people in the UK and around the world.
